Typically, mahjong can be taught in roughly two lessons. Mahj 101 and Mahj 102.  Each lesson can is made up of a teaching portion and a playing to learn portion. Mahj 101 & 102 will cover everything you need to know in order to play Mahjong.

The teaching portion takes roughly 30-45 min.
Then the playing to learn can take 1 -1:30 Min. Making the total time roughly 2 hours.

Mahj 101: Learn the Tiles, rules, how to read the NMJL card, and game play.

Mahj 102: Learn how to build walls, deal, Charleston, and play with blanks.
